Dear Tina,

What your step-dad did to you was not your fault. You didn’t even understand what was happening when it started and you told so many people, but none of them helped you. You told a teacher, a counselor, and your mother. It is not your fault that none of them got you out of there. It is not your fault that he did those things to you. You are a strong, beautiful person and what he did to you does not define you. It never has and it never will.

You have made so much progress over the last few years and you will continue to move forward and grow. He can’t stop you from enjoying life and loving yourself. I’m sorry you were violated at such a young age and for so long. Please, be kind to yourself and remember that you matter to more people than you think. You are strong.

With love,

Yourself
