I know you have been told so many times that what happened was your fault, that dozens of people have invalidated your experiences, and said extremely hurtful things. I want you to know, always, that you were not to blame for the awful thing that was done to you. It doesn’t matter that you were drunk. It doesn’t matter that your dress was short. It doesn’t matter that you kissed him first. He did not have the right to take advantage of you. While what was done to you is despicable, it does not make you damaged or dirty or broken. You never need to feel ashamed of being a victim. You never need to hate yourself for what he did. No matter what has happened, no matter what happened in the future, you are beautiful and powerful and whole and worthy of so much love.
